The Baltimore Ravens are running full steam ahead with their new coaching regime. While there are still some critical weeks of the offseason lying ahead, they’ve kicked off their workout program this past week. It’s time for the coaching staff to really start laying the groundwork.
There was already some extremely exciting news to come out of this week of workouts. Lamar Jackson made an appearance to get acquainted with the new coaching staff and their philosophies as soon as possible. It’s clear that players are already buying into what Jesse Minter and company have to offer.
If Jackson’s attendance wasn’t enough for you, just listen to what Zay Flowers had to say. In his time with the media on Wednesday, the two-time Pro Bowler commended the effort of the coaches’ well-thought-out plan for 2026.
“[The coaches] were ready. From the plays to the formations, everything was already set…What we’re gonna do, what type of offense we’re gonna have, we learned that from day one,” Flowers said. “I came back every week, and I stopped by coach Jesse and coach Declan [Doyle], I stop by their office all the time.”
That hard work to quickly implement the system is all fans need to hear. They’re ready.
Baltimore Ravens’ new coaching staff already impressing players and fans with preparation
The Ravens' new era is obviously going to be a major shift. It’s pretty much going to be a complete 180. After 18 years of John Harbaugh, the organization has a first-year head coach, an offensive coordinator going into his first season as the lead playcaller, and a young defensive coordinator in just his third season in the role. It’s the exact definition of out with the old and in with the new.
With so much inexperience, there’s a lot of risk. The Ravens have extremely high expectations with the likes of Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry leading the way, but a green coaching staff could halt some progress. Key word: could. By the sounds of it, though, Minter and his fellow coaches are doing everything in their power to iron out kinks and hit the ground running once the regular season gets underway.
When you match that preparation and love for the game with the talent on this staff, you have a dangerous recipe for success.
Minter was the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers for just two seasons, but it took him absolutely no time at all to emerge as one of the best young coaches in the NFL. From 2024 to 2025, his defenses were comfortably in the top-10. He’ll continue calling the defensive side of the ball in Baltimore.
Declan Doyle kind of came out of nowhere. He’s just 30 years old, but is wise beyond his years. He’s a part of the Sean Payton coaching tree, and in his lone season as offensive coordinator under Ben Johnson with the Chicago Bears, Chicago became one of the top teams in the NFC. Now, he’ll have his chance to actually be the playcaller under Minter.
Finally, Anthony Weaver rounds out the big three. He won’t have playcalling duties on defense, but will be asked to lead the defense in meetings when the situation calls for it. Of course, he’ll also play a pivotal role in weekly game plans. The best part about him? His leadership style screams Raven, and he already has players and fans ready to run through a brick wall.
We know what each of Minter, Doyle, and Weaver is capable of on their own. However, we’ll have to wait and see how it goes within one cohesive unit. If their offseason preparation is any telling, there won’t be much left for them to learn once Week 1 gets here.
