Mike Green has to shake off the rust quickly. He’s one of the few Baltimore Ravens defenders who were ineffective in Week 6, and in Week 7 he faces one of the NFL’s best tackles: Amarius Mims.
Mims is exploding into a top-tier talent in 2026. After being drafted in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, he’s brought a glimmer of hope to a Cincinnati Bengals offensive line that’s been a speed bump for the team in the past.
Green vs. Mims might as well be David vs. Goliath. Mims is 6-foot-8, 350 pounds with insane reach; Green is 6-foot-3, 250 pounds with shorter arms. Baltimore’s young pass rusher will have to fight tooth and nail on every snap.
It’s a physical nightmare.
Baltimore Ravens’ pass rusher Mike Green faces daunting test in Amarius Mims
To his credit, Mike Green is off to a strong start to his second season. He’s posted 2 sacks and 12 pressures, and looks competent against the run. The biggest development is his physicality, which seems to have him competing on the edge more consistently.
Still, in the loss to the Cleveland Browns, he had just 1 pressure. He was almost a nonfactor facing the most-sacked quarterback this year. Now, he must try to beat a tackle who’s been borderline impenetrable in Mims.
In five games, Mims has allowed 1 sack and 2 QB hits, and held T.J. Watt, Will Anderson Jr., and Danielle Hunter to 0 sacks and 0 pressures.
That’s elite territory, but other numbers make him look even better. The 24-year-old’s 4.0% pressure rate and 96.1% pass-block win rate on an island both rank first in the NFL. Yes, those numbers even rank ahead of the league standard Trent Williams and Tristan Wirfs.

What makes pass-block win rate stat even more impressive is how often he matches up on an island. He’s second in the NFL, with 87.6% of his pass-blocking snaps coming in one-on-one situations.

Yeah, Green won’t have an easy time finding wins on the left side.
But it’s not impossible.
How Mike Green can win up front in Week 7
While Mims is a freakish athlete at 6-foot-8, Green has the natural leverage. He’s explosive, quick, and possesses outstanding bend. Sure, Mims can match that at times, but when you add in Green’s 6-foot-3 frame, he’ll have chances to outleverage Mims.
Greens’ physicality and play strength have to keep improving, though. Or else Mims will send him into the shadow realm time and time again. Fortunately, Green is taking strides there.

However, Mims brings a different kind of power. Green also has trouble staying upright when firing into the backfield, tending to swipe at the quarterback’s ankles when he does reach the backfield.

You definitely want Green to finish upright more often. That’s a tendency tackles can clear out, especially with Mims’ range and reach.
Jesse Minter could scheme up opportunities for Green. Stunts are the easiest way to give Green a favorable matchup. Interior defensive linemen like Calais Campbell can run a pick and strike Mims’ inside shoulder, freeing up space for Green to separate and loop around inside.
It’ll be a long game, but Green has the talent to be a legitimate edge threat in this league. Sunday is his time to be great.
