Baltimore Ravens fans are being introduced to a lot of newcomers this week. After bringing another strong draft haul in the 2026 NFL Draft and adding an intriguing group of undrafted free agents along with that, the rookies are getting their first glimpse of NFL action in minicamp.
Of course, it’s just minicamp, but we’re getting to learn about some of these players. Whether it’s brief work in drills or their meetings with the media, they’re starting to introduce themselves to Charm City.
Fifth-round tight end Josh Cuevas is one player who spoke at minicamp on Saturday, and he’s bringing a determined mindset to the Ravens. However, even football players can get starstruck.
Baltimore Ravens’ new weapon is starstruck as he chases greatness
Cuevas is in a dream scenario. He’s playing for the organization that NFL Hall of Famer, former Alabama tight end, and current executive vice president of player personnel for the Ravens, Ozzie Newsome, made so great. Can there be a better landing spot for another former Alabama tight end? Probably not.
In his press conference on Saturday, he spoke about what it means to play for Ozzie Newsome.
“I was kind of starstruck when [Ozzie Newsome] got on the phone with me,” Cuevas said. “All we talk about at Alabama in the tight end room is the legends that come through here and the standards we need to uphold. That man holds all the records…so it’s something that we look up to, and we strive for.”
When you play at Alabama and get drafted by the Ravens, you are going to have high expectations. There have been some great players to come to Baltimore through the Bama Factory, and Cuevas could be next up.
Obviously, that’d be high expectations for a fifth-round pick. No one is expecting much from Cuevas entering his rookie year. He’s sitting behind Mark Andrews, and as it looks right now, there may not be ample opportunities for him in 2026. That determined chase for greatness, though, is very telling. The Ravens could have something in Cuevas sometime down the line.
Cuevas enters as a versatile tight end. He runs good routes, possesses reliable hands that are strong through contact, and can even get it done in the blocking game.
As Baltimore searches for the future of their tight end room after losing Isaiah Likely and Charlie Kolar in the offseason, Cuevas could take advantage of the snaps that may open up. It could take some time, but he’s clearly got the mentality that the Ravens want.
