The Baltimore Ravens are gearing up for another critical offseason, and general manager Eric DeCosta has made it clear that addressing the safety position is on his to-do list. Following the team’s heartbreaking playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills, DeCosta took the mic to hint at how the Ravens plan to strengthen their defensive secondary moving forward.

While he praised Kyle Hamilton and Ar’Darius Washington for their efforts, he didn’t shy away from the fact that adding another safety could open up new dimensions for the defense.

“If we can add another safety, it would be really good for us,” DeCosta said in his postseason presser. “It gives us multiplicity, but listen, we’re blessed to have Kyle and Ar’Darius back there.” DeCosta also emphasized the importance of Hamilton’s versatility, noting how the young star could thrive even closer to the line of scrimmage with the right reinforcements in the backfield.

Enter Las Vegas Raiders free agent Tre’Von Moehrig. He's hitting free agency at the perfect time for a team like the Ravens, who are horrifically desperate to prevent explosive plays (thank you, Brandon Stephens). Moehrig’s career-best season with the Raiders saw him tally 104 tackles, 10 pass breakups, and two interceptions, making him the top safety on the market.

Free agent Tre'Von Moehrig is the perfect Kyle Hamilton complement

DeCosta’s vision for adding “multiplicity” to the defense fits Moehrig like a glove. The 25-year-old’s range, instincts, and ability to defend the pass make him an ideal complement to Kyle Hamilton, who could return to wreaking havoc in the box. Moehrig has never played alongside a guy like Hamilton—and vice versa. Who knows what this duo could accomplish together?

Moehrig would bring much-needed stability to a Ravens secondary that struggled to contain big plays in 2024. Adding him to a unit already featuring Hamilton and a promising group of young corners, including Nate Wiggins and T.J. Tampa, could create one of the league’s most versatile defenses. If Marlon Humphrey stays, this only further multiplies his potential impact.

Moehrig could be what Xavier McKinney was to the Green Bay Packers last year—a true difference-maker. However, it's not just Moehrig or bust for the Ravens.

The draft remains an option, with Day 2 names like Notre Dame’s Xavier Watts and Kevin Winston Jr. from Penn State generating buzz. But signing Moehrig would provide immediate impact without the learning curve. Sure, his projected $10-12 million per year salary isn’t cheap, but if safety is the most important need for the Ravens, you have to do what you have to do.

With Moehrig in the mix, the defensive improvement could be significant—and exactly what Baltimore needs to finally make the leap. It looks like DeCosta already knows what he needs to do to take this team to the next level. Consider this our glowing endorsement of addressing the safety position, with heavy favoritism toward Moehrig.
