The Baltimore Ravens are in the middle of a chaotic offseason, pulling out of what would have been the biggest move of the year in the Maxx Crosby debacle, and also losing a ton of staple players to other teams. Through it all, the Ravens are trying their best to stay afloat and make moves that they believe will help them return to contender status.
One of those moves was re-signing veteran defensive back Chidobe Awuzie to a one-year deal. While it’s a move that largely flew under the radar, gaining some traction on social media because of a comical typo, it should be considered a wise move by Baltimore.
The reason why this is a steal is that Awuzie came up big as a depth piece for the Ravens last season, so it makes sense for the franchise to keep him around.
Chidobe Awuzie remains with Baltimore Ravens after productive 2025 season
Awuzie signed with Baltimore in free agency last offseason, and he made the team as a depth cornerback. However, he ended up playing in 14 games for the Ravens, starting five of those games, and playing nearly 65% of the team’s defensive snaps. In that action, the veteran defender recorded 43 tackles and seven pass deflections. Additionally, he emerged as a somewhat consistent piece in a struggling and injured secondary.
That 2025 production earned him another year with the Ravens, and an increase in salary from the veteran minimum to a deal worth $5 million. The question, though, is what will his role be in Baltimore in 2026? Will Awuzie remain a depth defender who helps the defense out when it’s in a crunch, or could he parlay his success from last season into a bigger role?
With the Ravens entering a new era, pretty much anything could be on the table for the veteran defender, and everyone else on the roster. Baltimore has a new leader at head coach in Jesse Minter, and as a respected defensive mind, he’ll be hands-on with the team’s defense. Additionally, the Ravens have a new defensive coordinator in Anthony Weaver. The new staff should result in some much-needed improvements for the defensive unit, but Chidobe Awuzie will return as a familiar face.
