The Baltimore Ravens do not have many weak points on their roster. However, the interior offensive line was a question mark all offseason, and in Week 1 vs. the Buffalo Bills, they proved unable to handle Ed Oliver and company up front. Center Tyler Linderbaum had a strong game, but the offensive guards will likely be a problem all season.

While Andrew Vorhees is still catching up to the pace of the league, right guard Daniel Faalele may be running out of time. Sure, it is only his second season playing guard, but in terms of pure blocking ability, he has failed to find a consistent rhythm. In Week 2 against the Cleveland Browns, he could be facing a make-or-break test.

The coaching staff has had faith in Faalele all offseason long, but at some point, change is needed. Quarterback Lamar Jackson has become one of the best pocket passers in the league, and although he is also an elite threat creating outside the pocket, that can take a toll on him. It was evident in the season opener, where he started cramping, a factor that kept him off the field in a key 4th-and-3 with less than two minutes left, that they eventually punted on.

Sunday’s home opener is the perfect chance to prove himself, but if he is not up to the challenge, a new starter could join the offensive line unit.

Faalele registered a 59.9 overall grade in Week 1, per Pro Football Focus. His disappointing night included two hurries and one sack allowed, as well as a 57.6 grade against the run. If we see similar play from him this Sunday, the calls to bench Faalele will only get louder.

The Ravens do not have many legitimate options at offensive guard. Veteran Ben Cleveland was re-signed this past offseason, but has never proven to be an effective player. He could see more action moving forward if Faalele continues to disappoint, but young center Corey Bullock could also be the answer.

Bullock was extremely impressive this preseason, and even though he is listed on the depth chart as a center, he can play guard. He played most of his collegiate career at the spot and thrived there. Veteran Joe Noteboom is also an option with experience at guard, but Baltimore will most likely keep him as a swing tackle.

It is obviously too early in the season to look for significant changes, but another abysmal performance could make the Ravens question Faalele’s future. Other players on the roster deserve opportunities, and they could also look to free agency for proven veterans.
