Ravens training camp could get messy (but not for the reason you think)

In the weeks leading up to training camp, most storylines are going to revolve around player hype, competition and roster battles. For the Baltimore Ravens, they'll have no shortage of all the above.

One area fans will love to keep their eyes on come training camp has to be the group of pass rushers. On paper, they are top-heavy with a pair of double-digit sack artists in Kyle Van Noy and Odafe Oweh. Although, the depth has been questioned at times.

If one thing goes perfectly, though, the questions will be less about depth and more about who gets to start.

Mike Green can single-handedly flip the script among the Ravens' pass rushers

While, yes, some fans are worried about the bottom of the depth chart when it comes to the pass rush group, there is also so much potential for the top three to be an elite trio.

Between Van Noy and Oweh, the Ravens got 22.5 sacks in 2024. That's not necessarily out-of-this-world production, but it's not nothing, either.

Let's say Mike Green starts out camp with a bang. He immediately warrants playing time and cements himself among the top three edge rushers (as he should). If that happens, then the narrative around the Ravens' pass rush flips entirely.

Green is definitely a wild card for multiple reasons. We know, by now, that the Ravens took a risk by drafting him. But, he is in a great situation under John Harbaugh and company. There are very few teams with a coaching staff in place who could afford to easily take a risk like Green, but Baltimore is one of them.

If Green pushes Van Noy and Oweh for a starting spot, that'll create the best kind of mess any Ravens fan could have asked for. Giving the staff a real decision to make when it comes to the rotation is the best-case scenario for Green in camp.

Let's start worrying less about the depth, here, and focus more on what's possible -- because the possibilities are indeed massive.

Don't underrate this Ravens pass rush. That's the lesson, here.
