Throughout the early stages of free agency, the Baltimore Ravens have lost more contributors than they’d like. These losses have come heavily on the offensive end, including both backup tight ends, Isaiah Likely and Charlie Kolar.
General manager Eric DeCosta has mentioned that Baltimore will continue to prioritize the tight end position under new offensive coordinator Declan Doyle. However, thus far, they’ve only added tight end Durham Smythe to fill the current void. They’ll need a lot more than that if they want to replace Likely and Kolar’s production.
The Ravens may be closing in on the perfect player to back up Mark Andrews in 2026. On Tuesday evening, it was reported that tight end David Njoku had a visit in Baltimore. Njoku has been speculated as a potential target for the Ravens, and now, it seems like the pairing could become a reality.
Baltimore Ravens making progress on potential David Njoku addition
For nine years, David Njoku was a thorn in Baltimore’s side as a member of the Cleveland Browns. From 2021 to 2023, he really came into his own as a steady option through the air. In 2023, he had a career-best campaign with 81 receptions, 882 yards, and six touchdowns, earning the first and only Pro Bowl nod of his career up to this point.
Njoku is almost entirely expected to move on from the Browns this offseason. He confirmed he wouldn’t be returning to Cleveland back in February. Throw in Harold Fannin, who immediately revealed himself as a playmaking threat in his rookie year, and the door is wide open for Njoku’s departure. It’s the perfect opportunity for the Ravens to swoop in and add a veteran piece to play alongside Mark Andrews.
A few years ago, an Andrews/Njoku pairing would’ve been possibly the best tight end duo in the NFL. In 2026, it wouldn’t be that flashy, as statistically, both are kind of on a downtrend in their careers. However, Andrews remains a major weapon in the red zone, and there’s reason to believe that Njoku could get back on track with the Ravens.
Njoku had just 33 receptions, 293 yards, and four touchdowns in 2025. That was mostly due to a horrific offense, though, which had a lack of identity between quarterbacks Joe Flacco, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders. When you don’t have a consistent quarterback under center, it can be hard for weapons to find a rhythm. Njoku wouldn’t have that issue in Baltimore.
If signed by the Ravens, the former Miami Hurricane would catch passes from one of the best players in the league, quarterback Lamar Jackson. Jackson makes everyone around him better, and if Njoku has anything left in the tank, landing in Charm City may be the best-case scenario for him to showcase that.
