The Arizona Cardinals hosted free-agent quarterback Tyler Huntley for a workout on Friday, per Cardinals insider Howard Balzer. On the surface, it’s a quiet move. But dig a little deeper and it’s another reminder that if you’ve ever held a clipboard in Baltimore, you’re pretty much set for life.
Huntley, who went undrafted out of Utah in 2020, spent four years backing up Lamar Jackson with the Baltimore Ravens. His claim to fame? That weird little stretch in 2022 when he made four starts, threw just two touchdown passes, and somehow ended up in the Pro Bowl—it was injury-related, but it happened. Last season, he bounced from the Cleveland Browns’ 53-man roster to the Ravens’ practice squad before landing with the Miami Dolphins, where he started five games in place of an injured Tua Tagovailoa.
Now, at 27 years old, he’s trying to stick in the league once again—this time in a quarterback room that already includes Kyler Murray, Jacoby Brissett, and Clayton Tune.
Cardinals kick the tires on former Ravens Pro Bowler Tyler Huntley
In 2024, Huntley threw for 829 yards, three touchdowns, and three picks while completing nearly 65 percent of his passes.
Not groundbreaking numbers, but serviceable, especially for a player thrown into a tough spot with limited reps. He added 135 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground, continuing to show the mobility that made him such a natural fit in Baltimore behind Jackson.
Huntley isn’t alone in making the rounds lately. Former Ravens legend Joe Flacco signed a one-year deal with the Browns, and longtime journeyman Josh Johnson inked a contract with the Commanders. That’s three former Ravens quarterbacks landing (or potentially landing) new opportunities in less than 24 hours. Apparently, once you’ve been around Baltimore's facilities, you’re forever employable.
Flacco will compete for reps in a messy Cleveland quarterback room. Johnson joins a Washington roster that already has Marcus Mariota backing up Jayden Daniels. And now Huntley is auditioning for a spot in Arizona, where his dual-threat game might be the closest thing the Cardinals have to a Kyler Murray insurance policy.
It’s unclear if the Cardinals will sign Huntley or simply keep him on speed dial in case of injury. But if recent history is any indication, there’s always room in this league for a Ravens quarterback—past or present.
