Day 1 of free agency has come and just about gone. It has been an exciting day, but there has been no news for the Baltimore Ravens—much to the chagrin of Ravens fans on Twitter.
Well, aside from Patrick Mekari and Brandon Stephens, who both got paid to leave Baltimore. But true Ravens fans know that former general manager Ozzie Newsome (now Eric DeCosta) and the front office have never been the type to make big signings on the first day of free agency.
They will, however, be there waiting to find and sign those guys who manage to slip through the cracks. Here are three players who could be available.
Wide Receiver
Historically, the Ravens have had more misses than hits when it comes to the wide receiver position. But that narrative is changing. Lamar Jackson threw 41 touchdown passes this season. That could be a testament to the once-in-a-lifetime player he is, but Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman’s development deserves its props. Still, most fans agree that the offense needs a "physical" downfield receiver.
Some of the top receivers have already been paid—D.K. Metcalf (who would have been a dream, only to be traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers), Davante Adams, and Chris Godwin. But some big names could still slip through the cracks, including Keenan Allen, DeAndre Hopkins, and Cooper Kupp.
Cooper Kupp
Kupp is more of a pure route-runner than a downfield threat, but let’s not forget he’s only three years removed from winning the receiving triple crown. If he can return to form, he could be a game-changer.
DeAndre Hopkins
DeAndre Hopkins, on the other hand, brings that one-on-one downfield presence. For years, he was considered one of the best in the league with the Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals. He had a couple of rough seasons with the Tennessee Titans but provided a major boost to Kansas City's receiver room after a midseason trade. He’s not the dominant force he once was, but pairing him with Flowers and Bateman could be dangerous.
Keenan Allen
Then there’s Keenan Allen, another veteran who was once among the best in the league. For years in Los Angeles, he was known for having the most reliable hands in the NFL. But after a poor showing this past season with the Chicago Bears—where he suffered from the subpar play of Caleb Williams—he’s another guy who could be overlooked.
If the Ravens want to take the next step in 2025, they can’t sit back and watch playmakers slip away. DeCosta has worked magic before—now it’s time to do it again.
