Calais Campbell's mistake might have just forced Ravens' draft decision

What a major letdown.

The Baltimore Ravens are a Super Bowl contender. No matter how you spin it, this roster is built to win now. And with a stacked AFC and a narrow window to operate, what they do in April’s draft could be the difference between another deep playoff run and coming up short... yet again.

For weeks, Oregon defensive tackle Derrick Harmon has been one of the most popular mock draft picks at No. 27. The fit makes perfect sense. Harmon has elite production, positional versatility, and that classic Ravens D-line feel. But a potential Calais Campbell reunion had cast doubt on whether the Ravens would even be in the market for another interior defender.

Not anymore.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Campbell is finalizing a one-year deal with the Arizona Cardinals, officially closing the door on a Baltimore return. That leaves a void on the Ravens’ depth chart—and a lot more clarity in the draft. Objectively a terrible decision for Campbell.

A Calais Campbell reunion could spell doom for Derrick Harmon

What a massive bummer. There was legitimate buzz about Campbell reuniting with the Ravens. Baltimore reportedly tried to acquire him at last season’s trade deadline before the Miami Dolphins ruined the fun and shut it down. With Michael Pierce now retired and Brent Urban still unsigned, Campbell looked like a perfect plug-and-play solution.

However, he's off to the desert. And instead of giving himself a legitimate shot at a Super Bowl, he chose to go to an underperforming Cardinals team that hasn't made the playoffs since 2021. An interesting move for a soon-to-be 39-year-old.

So now? The Ravens have to pivot.

Enter Derrick Harmon.

Harmon, who transferred to Oregon after three years at Michigan State, put together a monster 2024 season. His 35 pressures led all FBS defensive tackles. He has long arms, a thick frame, and the strength to overwhelm in the run game while still getting after the quarterback.

Baltimore already has Nnamdi Madubuike and Travis Jones on the line, but they need a new long-term piece up front. Harmon surely fits that mold. He’s scheme-versatile, polished, and projects as someone who can contribute immediately while also developing into a major piece down the line.

There’s still a chance the Ravens go a different direction with their first pick. They’ve got holes to fill on the offensive line and could target linebacker, wide receiver, or cornerback depending on how the board falls. But with Campbell now officially off the table, the path to Harmon in purple just got a whole lot clearer. To think he could have ended his career on a high note...

If Harmon's still there at 27, it might be too obvious to pass up—especially now.
