The Baltimore Ravens have started a new era, with Jesse Minter taking over as head coach, but the focal point of the team is still the same: Lamar Jackson. Everything in Baltimore revolves around the elite quarterback, and that’s why his contract has been a frequent topic of discussion this offseason.
Jackson is entering the final two years of his deal, and considering the way his current contract is structured, it would make all the sense in the world for the team to get a deal done ahead of the 2026 season. The Ravens haven’t done that yet, so the lack of an extension has created even more discussions.
The heat got turned up on those conversations on Wednesday, because the Kansas City Chiefs did wth Patrick Mahomes what Baltimore should be doing with Jackson. Kansas City added two more years to their quarterback’s contract, giving him long-term security and keeping him near the top of the market.
It’s now time for Baltimore to do the same with Jackson.
Ravens must extend Lamar Jackson after Chiefs’ extension of Patrick Mahomes
Mahomes’ wasn’t even nearing the end of his current deal. The Chiefs quarterback was playing on a 10-year contract that wasn’t set to expire until after the 2031 season. Despite that being a few seasons away, Kansas City decided to add on two more years, and give Mahomes a raise, despite the fact that he’s coming off a down year and a torn ACL.
That shows the franchise’s level of commitment to the star quarterback, and that’s also a great way to quiet any speculation. The Ravens should take note. Unless Jackson is refusing an extension, there isn’t a reason the franchise shouldn't be trying to lock him up long term.
Unless he forces his way out, Jackson is obviously the quarterback of the future in Baltimore, and the longer the team waits to get a new deal done, the more expensive the eventual contract will be. That’s why the Ravens and Jackson just need to get a deal done, and put this conversation to bed before the start of an important 2026 season.
