The Baltimore Ravens’ offensive line appears to be set in stone. They signed Ethan Pocic to be the final addition to the front, which, in all likelihood, will answer their center question.
Pocic comes with his fair share of concerns. He isn’t exactly a game-changer, and the fact that he’s 30 years old coming off the Achilles injury doesn't help. He is, however, a massive improvement from where the Ravens were just a few days ago.
Going from Danny Pinter and his 10 career starts to Pocic and his 97 starts is a dramatic improvement on its own. And if you’re a Ravens fan on the fence about Pocic’s potential impact, allow a Cleveland Browns expert to ease any worries.
In a recent article for FanSided’s Browns’ site, Dawg Pound Daily, site expert Ryan O’Leary outlined what Ravens fans can expect from this move.
“If Pocic, who turns 31 in August, is truly healthy and ready to compete, he should win the Ravens’ starting center job going away. How his body reacts to the grind of training camp remains to be seen, but one of the Ravens’ most obvious weaknesses just improved on paper, at the Browns’ expense.”
Baltimore Ravens may have found a late-offseason steal in Ethan Pocic
Of course, Ethan Pocic isn’t a sure thing. Yes, reports sounds very convinced that Pocic is a full-go for training camp, but it’s fair to think that might sound a bit crazy. The veteran center tore his Achilles in early December. Already being back and ready to go come late July and early August? That sounds like a bit wild. You'd at least expect some time needed to build up into football shape.
However, all football players recover differently. If Pocic is making as incredible a recovery as it seems, then the Ravens not only have themselves a starting center but also one who is battle-tested. Now, it’s only a short-term solution at center, given Pocic’s contract is good for just a one-year deal worth up to $4.5 million. However, he’s a reliable band-aid for the problem after striking out on their future in the 2026 NFL Draft.
And it sounds like some Browns fans were open to bringing Pocic back if he really is ready to play in 2026, as well. In that same Dawg Pound Daily piece, O’Leary highlighted that Pocic could’ve been a worthy option to retain.
“The Browns could have easily justified bringing Pocic back on a one-year bridge deal. He would have completed their current offensive line puzzle, slotting back in at center with Jenkins taking over Teller’s former spot at right guard.”
In that case, the Pocic signing has a little extra icing on the cake. The Ravens improving their roster in this way could pour a little extra salt in the wound.
Pocic still needs to do a few things to win the starting job in Baltimore. He’ll need to pass his physical, prove he can get on the field early and make an impact, and he still must outplay the likes of Danny Pinter, Jovaughn Gwyn, and Corey Bullock. Nothing’s guaranteed, but based on the potential of the payout, it’ll have people in Charm City breathing easier.
