Dan Orlovsky’s MVP prediction meets reality on Lamar Jackson's terms

We accept your apology, Dan.

Dan Orlovsky has never been afraid to throw out a bold take, but his recent MVP proclamation blew up in his face in spectacular fashion.

A few weeks ago, Orlovsky declared the race for NFL MVP “over,” crowning Josh Allen as the winner with three games left to play. But after Lamar Jackson’s electric performances down the stretch, Orlovsky is now backtracking in what might be his most memorable moment yet.

Jackson’s dominance for the Baltimore Ravens has been impossible to overlook, even for those who were quick to dismiss him. Meanwhile, Allen has struggled to clearly distinguish himself, and the gap between the two quarterbacks has only lessened.

The result? Orlovsky is now eating crow in front of a national audience, much to the delight of Ravens fans everywhere.

This isn’t the first time Orlovsky has stumbled when it comes to Lamar Jackson, but at least this time he’s owning up to it. And let’s be real—Flock Nation is loving every second of watching him eat his words.

Who would have known Dan Orlovsky was such a fan of our MVP coverage?

On a recent episode of First Take, Orlovsky issued a full-blown mea culpa for his earlier claim:

“I was the big dumb idiot that went on TV three weeks ago and said it was over. I got caught in the moment. It was premature. It wasn’t over, obviously. My bad. I owe America an apology in regard to that."

(Video below):

For those of us keeping track (read: everyone at Ebonybird), this is just the latest chapter in Orlovsky’s MVP debacle. His initial take declaring the race “over” was already reckless, but it’s been particularly gratifying to see him backpedal after Lamar Jackson’s heroics. If anything, Orlovsky’s apology only highlights how thoroughly he underestimated Baltimore’s star quarterback—something we’ve been pointing out since day one.

We’ve covered Orlovsky’s blunder extensively, and for good reason. It’s rare to see someone make such a definitive statement, only for it to blow up so quickly. From the Ravens’ Week 15 domination to Jackson’s Christmas Day masterpiece, we’ve been documenting every moment that’s made Orlovsky’s take look worse.

You’d think he might have picked up a copy of our coverage by now.

Lamar Jackson’s case for MVP has only grown stronger. He’s not just leading the Ravens to wins—he’s rewriting the NFL record books while doing it. Jackson currently boasts 3,955 passing yards, 39 touchdowns, and just four interceptions. Add in 852 rushing yards and four rushing scores, and it’s clear he’s the engine driving Baltimore’s success.

With pedestrian outings against lesser opponents like the New England Patriots and New York Jets, Allen has failed to definitively pull away in the MVP race (much to the chagrin of Orlovsky and his teammates). In contrast, Jackson has consistently risen to the occasion, delivering signature moments in high-pressure games.

To his credit, Orlovsky’s willingness to admit he got it wrong is refreshing in a world where hot takes often go unchecked. But for Ravens fans, this apology only validates what we’ve known all along—Lamar Jackson is the MVP. And if Orlovsky’s learned anything, it’s to let the season play out before making another “big dumb idiot” declaration.

Maybe next time, he’ll consult with us first.
