The Baltimore Ravens were reportedly interested in drafting Shedeur Sanders in this year's draft, a nugget that was revealed ahead of Week 2. The Ravens opted not take a chance on Sanders after it was clear the Colorado quarterback was not into the idea of backing up Lamar Jackson.
Why is this still getting brought up? Well, because Shedeur's father, Deion Sanders, recently appeared on the New Heights podcast and talked about this situation. While speaking with the Kelce brothers, Deion talked about the Ravens/Shedeur draft drama and gave an explanation that only Deion Sanders could give.
"I put Shedeur on the phone [with the Ravens] and Shedeur - I don't want to say how it went but how in the world can somebody fault him for saying or thinking 'Why in the world would I go back up Lamar [Jackson] for 10 more years?'" Deion said. "I've never sat on the bench and said 'Well I learned a lot today.'"
Deion Sanders just made fans even more glad that Ravens didn't draft Shedeur
This line of thinking is a Sanders-ism if I've ever seen one. To say that Shedeur wouldn't have benefitted from sitting on the bench behind Lamar Jackson of all people is a new one. Instead of learning from one of the best quarterbacks in the entire NFL (with two MVP awards to prove it), Shedeur is the third-string quarterback on a bad Cleveland team. How is that beneficial to his career?
The answer is that it's not. Shedeur could have learned from one of the best in the NFL and improved as a quarterback but that's apparently not what he's looking for. The funny part of all of this is that Shedeur is still riding the bench in Cleveland only behind a 40-year-old Joe Flacco and another rookie in Dillon Gabriel.
Hey, this quote really just makes it that much more obvious how much of a draft bullet the Ravens dodged by not taking Shedeur. It's also becoming clearer by the day why he went from a first-round pick to a fifth-rounder and quotes like these don't help his case.
