Diontae Johnson might have already played his last snap for Ravens
By Matt Sidney
What started as an exciting midseason acquisition has quickly turned into a head-scratching saga for the Baltimore Ravens and wide receiver Diontae Johnson. The former Panther was brought in at the trade deadline to bolster the team’s receiving corps, but instead, he’s been a complete non-factor.
After logging zero snaps in the Ravens’ Week 13 loss to the Eagles, the question isn’t just why he’s not playing. It’s whether his time with the team might already be over.
Johnson’s role, or lack thereof, has been a growing source of frustration. His debut in Week 9 was limited, with just 17 snaps. Since then, his usage has inexplicably dropped, culminating in him being benched entirely against Philadelphia despite being dressed and on the sidelines. To make matters worse, head coach John Harbaugh has been cagey about the situation, offering little clarity to fans or even his star quarterback, Lamar Jackson, who has publicly voiced his confusion over Johnson’s absence.
Baltimore’s offense, which has struggled in recent weeks, could use a playmaker like Johnson, making the lack of transparency all the more baffling. The Ravens are now left to navigate a crucial stretch of their season while dealing with unnecessary drama surrounding one of their supposed key midseason additions.
Ravens head coach John Harbaugh’s cryptic comments deepen the Diontae Johnson mystery
When asked directly about Johnson’s status following the Eagles game, Harbaugh offered yet another cryptic response.
Harbaugh’s noncommittal response has only added fuel to the speculation that Johnson’s time in Baltimore could be coming to an end. If that’s the case, it raises even more questions about why the Ravens gave up assets to acquire him in the first place.
The Ravens’ offense hasn’t exactly been lighting it up recently, making Johnson’s benching even more perplexing.
Against a tough Eagles defense, Baltimore needed every weapon available, yet Johnson remained glued to the sideline. Jackson himself has expressed frustration, saying, “We didn’t get him from the Panthers for nothing.”
Baltimore’s offense has looked one-dimensional in recent weeks, leaning heavily on Jackson and Derrick Henry to carry the load. Johnson’s playmaking ability could have provided a spark, but instead, the Ravens are left dealing with the distraction of his unexplained absence.
With the team entering its bye week, the situation remains unresolved. Harbaugh’s refusal to offer any real answers only adds to the uncertainty, and the possibility of Johnson not being with the team after the bye is now on the table.
You can’t make this stuff up.
