If Baltimore Ravens fans don't remember that Diontae Johnson was a member of this year's team down the road, no one would blame them. Johnson was a trade acquisition for the Ravens ahead of the deadline in the hopes that he'd give them some depth at the wide receiver position.
What ended up happening was Johnson barely being on the field. He appeared in just four games and had one catch for six yards. The Ravens suspended Johnson for one game and then, weeks later, the short-lived Diontae Johnson era of Ravens football was over just like that.
Baltimore waived the former third-round pick and the Texans ended up scooping him up to help with their wide receiver depth. Johnson finally spoke about his brief time with Baltimore and his comments left Ravens fans feeling all sorts of confused.
“I’m going to leave that in the past. Fresh start here. I had a good time there. I got some good teammates over there. Those relationships are still gonna be there. I'm trying to win games and go far in the playoffs.”
Diontae Johnson's recent comments leave a lot to be desired
Let's break down what Johnson said here. He starts by saying that he's going to leave the Ravens in the past and he has a new start, both of which make sense. After that, however, he says that he "had a good time" in Baltimore and had good teammates there.
In what world did Johnson have fun in Baltimore? He straight-up refused to go into a game at one point. And if he had good teammates, wouldn't he have wanted to play for them? Make it make sense!
More Ravens news:
It's also funny to hear him say that he wants to go far in the playoffs. He's currently with a Texans team that just got their doors blown off by the very same Ravens team that Johnson was on. If he wanted to go far in the playoffs, maybe he should have pretended to care about the team that traded for him and, you know, actually played when they asked him to.
Ravens fans were hoping to see Johnson reveal a little more with his comments and these remarks are just... unremarkable. He gave a very vague response and it's frustrating that if he was going to treat this organization the way he did that he's now going to try and look like the good guy in the situation.
Fortunately, the Ravens have moved on and hopefully, Johnson and his new team don't have a long stay in the postseason.
