Eric DeCosta and Patrick Ricard couldn't be more on the same page if they tried

Let's make this happen.

Patrick Ricard has made it clear—he wants to retire in Baltimore. After the Ravens’ crushing 27-25 playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills, the five-time Pro Bowler didn’t hold back when discussing his future, telling reporters, “I want to retire here.” For a player who has been the heart and soul of the Ravens’ run game since 2017, it’s no surprise he hopes to stay in Purple and Black.

Ricard, affectionately known as either "Project Pat" or "Pancake Pat," has been a cornerstone of Baltimore’s offense for years. His ability to line up anywhere on the field—whether as a fullback, tight end, or in-line blocker—makes him invaluable in both run and pass protection. Even in Offensive Coordinator Todd Monken’s more balanced scheme, Ricard’s unique skill set has remained a vital part of the team’s identity.

With Ricard’s free agency looming and the Ravens entering a critical offseason, General Manager Eric DeCosta addressed the veteran fullback’s future during his postseason press conference. Unsurprisingly, DeCosta echoed Ricard’s sentiment about staying in Baltimore, offering high praise for the 300-pound wrecking ball.

Eric DeCosta, Patrick Ricard, and Ravens fans all want the same thing: keep Pancake Pat in Purple & Black forever

“I think Pat knows how we feel about him, and I would love for him to retire as a Raven, too. He epitomizes everything that we're all about,” DeCosta said. “And he's another undrafted guy who just became—in my opinion—the best at his position.”

DeCosta also highlighted Ricard’s journey from undrafted defensive lineman to one of the NFL’s premier fullbacks. “This is probably his fourth contract now with us—if we can get him signed—and I would say that would be the goal.”

It’s clear DeCosta values everything Ricard brings to the table, both on and off the field. In a league that’s moving away from traditional fullbacks, Ricard has defied the odds by not only staying relevant but thriving.

Re-signing Ricard won’t just be a feel-good story—it’s a smart move for a Ravens team that prides itself on physicality and versatility. Losing Ricard would literally leave a massive hole in their offense, not to mention the locker room.

While the Ravens face tough decisions with several key free agents, it’s hard to imagine DeCosta letting Ricard walk. If there’s one player who embodies what it means to be a Raven, it’s "Pancake Pat." And if DeCosta and Ricard have their ways, Ricard’s career will begin and end in Baltimore—just as it should. It sure seems like Ricard is at least back for next season. Run it back.
