The preseason is a time for Baltimore Ravens fans to not only see what some of the lower-tier players on their roster can do but it's also a time to follow along with former players as they try to stick with a new team. Chris Board is a former Ravens player who is hoping to make it work with his new team but so far, it hasn't looked to be a smooth journey for Board.
The former UDFA out of North Dakota State has spent five of his seven NFL seasons in Baltimore, including the first four years of his career. After two years spent with other teams, Board returned to Baltimore serving in a special teams role but then hit free agency again this offseason. Board eventually joined the New York Giants and things could certainly be going much better for him in the Big Apple.
Bills tight end Dawson Knox ran right past Board into the end zone for a touchdown in the Giants' first preseason game, leaving some fans wondering where the effort was. Some could argue that, hey, it's preseason, why put your body on the line in an exhibition game? Others, however, aren't going to take too kindly to that sort of logic.
Giants fans weren't the only ones left underwhelmed by Board's preseason debut with the team. Pro Football Focus eviscerated him with their grades, as he finished either in the red or orange in all four categories. To those who are unfamiliar with PFF grade, that's bad.
It might only be preseason but Giants might be regretting Chris Board signing
Board's departure seemed like it was going to be a big one for the Ravens given what he's provided for the team during his five-year stint. He's not only been a special teams ace but looked to be a dependable defensive option when called upon.
That being said, the Giants offered him more than Baltimore did and off he went. This is only one preseason game but the lack of effort paired with his brutal grades from PFF and the Giants might slowly be starting to wish they could have a mulligan on this signing.
