The Baltimore Ravens are rolling at 4-1 after winning three straight games. They defeated the Atlanta Falcons without quarterback Lamar Jackson last week. With it sounding like Jackson could be back in the fold this week, the Ravens also got fantastic news about rookie receiver Ja'Kobi Lane.
NFL Network and ESPN's Mike Garafolo revealed that Lane is expected to return to practice after being sidelined with a wrist injury. Lane underwent wrist surgery for a fracture that he suffered in the Week 1 win over the Indianapolis Colts.
Head coach Jesse Minter added that Lane has a chance to play in Week 6, and that would be a massive addition to this offense.
Ravens may have a new weapon ready to make an impact in Ja’Kobi Lane
Everyone knows that offense runs through Derrick Henry, Zay Flowers, and Jackson. That trio is among the league's best, but adding Lane to the mix shouldn't be overlooked. Throughout the entire summer, Lane was a major talking point.
Practice after practice, he was seen making big plays. He had countless contested catches and eye-popping plays. He was such a regular in that department that ESPN's Jamison Hensley said he hasn't seen a rookie have a camp like Lane did in his 27 years covering the team.
That shouldn't be scoffed at and goes to show the caliber of player Lane can be for this offense. When you look at the Ravens' receiver room, they don't have a player with Lane's skill set. He's listed at 6-foot-4, and he uses his frame to his advantage.
Lane logged the fifth-highest vertical jump at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine at 40 inches. And when you see his college tape and what he did during training camp, you can see that is a big edge for him. His length and ball skills give Baltimore something that they haven't had in their receiver room in a long time.
While missing the last month isn't ideal, he was constantly building rapport and a connection with Jackson. Before going down, he was someone who had earned his way onto the field and was going to get serious playing time.
And during his time on the sideline, no one ran away with a role. Flowers, of course, leads the way with 405 receiving yards, and Bateman is second with 233 receiving yards on 16 catches and one score. Devontez Walker is third among receivers in total snaps (123) but only has four catches for 75 yards on the season.
Look for Lane to eat into some of his snaps and give this offense another weapon. In the opener versus the Colts, Jackson and Lane connected for a four-yard touchdown in the second quarter, but it was called back due to a holding call.
Despite the points coming off the board, it was a sign that Lane could be a nice threat in the red zone, and the staff is looking to get him involved.
While he will need some time to get back into rhythm, having Lane active is a bonus for the Ravens. He seems poised to have a serious role in this offense, and practicing is one step closer to being active on game days.
