The Baltimore Ravens made their long-awaited decision on their next head coach. On Thursday, they hired former Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter. He will be the team’s fourth head coach in franchise history.
Minter certainly has a lot on his plate. Despite being one of the younger organizations, founded in 1996, they have a long history of winning. With 16 playoff appearances and two Super Bowl wins, the expectations are high. They’re especially high given he is filling the void left by former head coach John Harbaugh, who was fired after 18 seasons that included 12 playoff appearances and one Super Bowl win.
Regardless, Minter sounds ready to lift the weight of those expectations and go above and beyond. Following the team’s official announcement of his hiring, Minter released a statement that will have fans excited for what’s to come.

Ravens enter new era with Jesse Minter hire
This will certainly take some getting used to, but Minter seems like the perfect man for the job. While Harbaugh still had his teams competing, it seemed like his message ran dry. Bringing in a 42-year-old coach should help change that and get the Ravens back to having the success that they’re used to having.
Obviously, Minter will have the biggest impact on the defensive side. He had the Chargers firing on all cylinders over the past two seasons, leading a top 10 unit. Those efforts have been desperately needed in Baltimore, as the team was enduring significant struggles on the defensive side during that stretch.
The Ravens have long been known for tough defenses that make their presence felt on every down. They need to get back to that, and Minter should help them get there. There are weapons all over the defense, and he will get the most out of stars like safety Kyle Hamilton and linebacker Roquan Smith, and emerging talents like cornerback Nate Wiggins, safety Malaki Starks, defensive tackle Travis Jones, and outside linebacker Mike Green.
Minter has plenty of work to do. Despite all the talent, the team struggled in almost every way imaginable in 2025. If his success with the Chargers is any telling, though, Baltimore will be just fine.
