John Harbaugh looks ready to recycle another failed Ravens experiment with Giants

The 2026 NFL season is going to look way different. The landscape has changed. There were 10 head coaching changes made this offseason, and for the Baltimore Ravens, it’s going to feel very weird.

After 18 years, the Ravens made the decision to fire John Harbaugh. In his place, they hired Jesse Minter. Fans are undoubtedly excited about Minter, but they’ll be keeping a close eye on Harbaugh in 2026.

Sure, Harbaugh has brought in some key contributors from Baltimore, but he’s also brought in a failed experiment in Daniel Faalele. Now, it looks like Faalele might not be the only one. Rumors have continued to swirl around a potential Odell Beckham Jr. reunion with the Giants, and reports indicate that Beckham and Harbaugh have had ongoing conversations about a reunion.

John Harbaugh could bring another former Baltimore Ravens player to New York Giants

A Beckham reunion would make some sense. I’m not saying it’d be a dumb move. That team needs some veteran leadership, and maybe Beckham’s experience and energy could spark something back into a Giants team looking to find an identity with their new young core. However, if they’re looking for impact in the statistical department, the 33-year-old probably isn’t going to bring that.

Beckham hasn’t really been a threat at wideout since 2019, when he was with the Cleveland Browns (the last time he eclipsed 1,000 yards). Injuries have caused a slight regression year over year since then, and in his stint with the Ravens in 2023, he didn’t really do much.

In Charm City, Beckham struggled to be a consistent threat through the air. Sure, 35 catches for 565 yards and three touchdowns weren’t horrendous for a WR2 in a run-heavy offense, but his efficiency was simply bad. Those 35 receptions came on 64 targets. That's rough. Throw in a one-year deal where he earned $16 million from the Ravens, and it was a pretty disappointing tenure.

Following that season, Beckham spent part of 2024 with the Miami Dolphins, and hasn't played anywhere since.

Regardless, the Giants likely won’t ask much from Beckham if they do sign him. It’ll obviously get their fanbase fired up; however, it doesn’t really look like he’d have much of a role.

The team has a starting trio set with Malik Nabers, Darnell Mooney, and Darius Slayton, and they also traded up to draft Malachi Fields in the 2026 NFL Draft. Add on free agent signing Calvin Austin III, and Beckham would have his work cut out for him to even make the 53-man roster.

If Harbaugh does think he has an actual role for Beckham on offense, though, there’s a strong likelihood it wouldn’t go too well. Maybe he recaptures that New York magic, but his career has been on a steady downturn. Reunions are fun, but sometimes it’s better to focus on developing other talent rather than picking favorites who once played for you on your former team.
