The Baltimore Ravens’ frustrating 24-19 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles had fans venting their frustration, and it turns out Lamar Jackson wasn’t immune to criticism at home either. In a postgame interview, the Ravens’ star quarterback revealed his mother, Felicia Jones, didn’t mince words about his performance.

Jackson, who completed 23 of 36 passes for 237 yards, two touchdowns, and ran for 79 yards, admitted his mom let him know exactly how she felt about some missed opportunities on the field. “She just cussed me out,” Jackson shared. “She said there were lanes I should have [taken] and ran, but I was trying to let guys develop routes.”

It’s not every day an MVP-caliber quarterback gets this kind of blunt feedback from a parent, but Jackson didn’t shy away from acknowledging her point. “She’s right,” he said, echoing the sentiments of many Ravens fans who saw moments where Jackson could have used his legs to extend drives or put the team in better scoring positions.

Lamar Jackson's mom holds him accountable after loss to Eagles

While Jackson’s performance was solid on paper, the Ravens’ offense left plenty on the field.

The game marked another example of Baltimore’s inability to capitalize on opportunities against a top-tier opponent. For Jackson, hearing it from his mother might be the most cutting critique he’s faced this season.

Jackson has been one of the league’s most dynamic dual-threat quarterbacks, with a reputation for making jaw-dropping plays. But against the Eagles, his hesitation to run in certain situations highlighted a curious trend. Even with an explosive 39-yard run late in the game, Jackson often opted to remain in the pocket, letting plays develop instead of taking advantage of open lanes to pick up yards on the ground.

Momma's tough love comes at a pivotal moment. The Ravens are now 8-5, trailing the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC North. With a bye week looming, Jackson and the Ravens have a chance to reset, but they’ll need more than self-reflection to fix their consistency issues.

Jackson’s comments about his mom’s critique were a glimpse into the high standards he holds for himself. “I’m just mad,” he admitted. “I feel like we should win these games, and we’re not getting them done.” That frustration mirrors the sentiment within a fan base that’s watched Baltimore squander chances to solidify its playoff position.

The Ravens’ offense has shown flashes of brilliance this season. But recently, they have stalled. Against Philadelphia, missed throws, missed kicks, and unforced errors crushed them.

As Baltimore heads into its bye week, Jackson’s focus will undoubtedly be on cleaning up the offense’s execution and bringing back the electricity fans have gotten so used to seeing. The Ravens face the New York Giants out of the bye. It's a great chance to get the offense back on track.

Perhaps a bit of tough love from home is exactly what Jackson and the Ravens need to regain their edge. If Action Jackson responds with the same intensity that has made him the MVP frontrunner for most of the season, the rest of the league should be wary.
