The Baltimore Ravens returned to the practice field on Monday after a much-needed bye week. They hope the rest will pay off, as they are still looking to compete in 2025, despite starting the season with a record of 1-5.

The rest is already improving the team. Many key injured contributors returned to action. The encouraging list included fullback Patrick Ricard, left tackle Ronnie Stanley, middle linebacker Roquan Smith, and cornerback Chidobe Awuzie. Assuming they all play in Week 8 against the Chicago Bears, the offense and defense should receive significant boosts.

However, the obvious player still missing from practice was quarterback Lamar Jackson. Jackson injured his hamstring in the team’s Week 4 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, and after three weeks out of action, he was still nowhere to be found.

During his time with the media after practice, Head Coach John Harbaugh made it clear he would not be providing updates on Jackson, or anyone with injury designations for that matter, even those who made appearances on Monday.

While it may be concerning to see Jackson not return on Monday, especially with others like Smith who suffered a similar injury in Week 4, fans should hold off on hitting the panic button for now.

No need to panic after Lamar Jackson misses practice

Monday is an early practice for a Sunday game. Obviously after being on rest for a whole week, it is crucial to get back on the field. However, Wednesday and Thursday are when the practices get intense, that is likely the current target date for Jackson to return to practice.

The Ravens are going to be extremely cautious with a player like Jackson. Not only is quarterback the most important position on the field, but one of Jackson’s best attributes is using his legs and extending plays. They are going to give the 28-year-old every extra day possible to ensure he is at his best for when the Chicago game comes.

The offensive line has also been a negative asset all year. Jackson loves to keep the play alive for as long as possible, but the line has not allowed for much success in those scenarios. They have given up 20 sacks in 2025, ranking eighth-worst in the NFL.

Of course, Baltimore desperately needs Jackson back this week. The offense simply cannot operate under Cooper Rush or Tyler Huntley for another game if they want to be competitive. If the two-time MVP does not return by Wednesday, then talks can be had about his health for Sunday, but for now, it is likely he is just getting the extra rest needed to be at 100 percent for Week 8.
