Lamar Jackson just added another milestone to his illustrious career. With three carries for 14 yards in the Ravens' Week 6 matchup against the Washington Commanders, Jackson passed Cam Newton to claim the No. 2 spot on the NFL’s all-time quarterback rushing list.

Jackson now has 5,635 career rushing yards, surpassing Newton’s 5,631. The only quarterback left for Jackson to chase is the legendary Michael Vick, who holds the record with 6,109 yards. Given Jackson’s rushing prowess, it seems like only a matter of time before he takes the top spot.

Since entering the league in 2018, Jackson has redefined the quarterback position. His combination of speed, agility, and vision makes him a threat every time he takes off, and he’s rushed for over 690 yards in every season of his career. Even with Baltimore’s offense evolving to become more pass-focused under offensive coordinator Todd Monken, Jackson’s legs remain a vital part of the game plan.

The Ravens need every bit of Jackson’s versatility against the Commanders, as Washington’s defense pressured him all day. Although he's only rushed for 14 yards, those carries were significant enough to push him past Newton and onto the second spot in NFL history.

Lamar Jackson has Mike Vick's rushing record in his sights

With 4747 yards now separating Jackson from Michael Vick’s all-time record, it’s a question of “when,” not “if,” Jackson will become the most prolific rushing quarterback in NFL history. Given his consistent production on the ground, he could eclipse Vick’s mark this season or early next.

More than just breaking records, Jackson is changing how quarterbacks are evaluated. His ability to thrive as both a passer and a runner has made him one of the most dynamic and feared players in the NFL. Every scramble adds to his legacy, and his Week 6 achievement is another step toward cementing his place in history.

As the Ravens look ahead, Jackson’s legs will continue to be a crucial factor in their playoff push. With both his rushing and passing talents at peak levels, Baltimore has a real shot at making noise in January.
