Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson has already established himself as the greatest running quarterback in NFL history, and he’s still in his prime. However, after a 2025 season where Jackson saw a career low in rushing stats, there have been questions about if he’ll be running less moving forward.
On Wednesday, the star quarterback weighed in on the conversation, and he made it clear that he plans to remain the same dual-threat quarterback that made him one of the best players in the league.
Speaking to the media, Jackson reminded everyone that he dealt with injuries last season, which is why he wasn’t the rusher he typically is. Entering the 2026 season healthy, the quarterback says he’s prepared to do whatever Baltimore needs him to do to win.
"I was hurt last year, so I really could not do anything like I wanted to. It really would not [have] put my team in a good position if I was just running hurt — losing yards, things like that [were] happening. But whatever it takes to win, that is what I am all about and [I have] always been about that too."Lamar Jackson
Lamar Jackson is prepared to run as much as necessary in 2026
After starting his career with seven straight seasons of more than 600 rushing yards, including two years where he posted more than 1000 rushing yards, Jackson carried the ball just 67 times for 349 yards and two rushing touchdowns. Those were all career lows by a significant margin.
However, Jackson only appeared in 13 games because of health, and it was clear when he was on the field that he wasn’t as fast and twitchy as he’s known to be. That’s because injuries were holding him back, so running just wasn’t apart of his game like it usually is.
As long as health is on his side, that won’t be the case in 2026. Throughout training camp, there have been numerous reports about how Jackson is looking much faster and quicker relative to last season. That should be a sign of what’s to come in the regular season: a version of Lamar Jackson who can destroy defenses with his arm and his legs.
