3 Ravens Training Camp battles officially declared by John Harbaugh
Battle No. 2 - Left Guard: Ben Cleveland? John Simpson? Daniel Faalele? It's a toss-up!
One of the "weakest" positions in the Ravens' roster is the left guard one. It's not that there aren't many bodies ready to fill it, but rather the balanced mediocrity of all of the players capable of playing there.
John Simpson started 21 games for the Las Vegas Raiders and seems to be fighting for a starting role with the Ravens.
Ben Cleveland was a third-round pick selected by Baltimore as recently as in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Finally, the Ravens bolstered the position by drafting another LG-capable player in Oregon's standout Malaesala Aumavae-Laulu this offseason with a sixth-round pick, and the rookie has taken on the bulkiest load during the first few days of camp.
Hell, at this point we can't even rule out Daniel Faalele and/or Patrick Mekari ending up with the full-time gig at LG!
And that's exactly what Harbaugh told reporters after Tuesday, as always quoted by Brown in his piece written after practice. "We'll flip some guys in different reps, and then another day or two it may change a little bit and we'll try some guys in some different spots," Harbaugh said.
According to the coach, this battle "will probably go on for a minimum of a week, [maybe] more." After that, Harbaugh said that the Ravens "will kind of work from there," depending on the results and what the coaches watch taking place on the football field.
