DC Mike Macdonald: "We're playing a child's game for a king's ransom, but it's a tough gig"

Isn't it your dream to play in the National Football League? Pocketing millions for popping up on a gridiron on a few Sundays? Well, you might have to rethink that, folks.

Ravens Defensive Coordinator was quick to acknowledged that, yes, working for an NFL franchise simply is akin to playing a child's game while earning a king's ramson. That doesn't mean it's a simple job.

"We're playing a child's game for a king's ransom, but this is a tough gig. To stay mentally fresh all the time for every practice - that part is not easy, and to their credit, they're always ready to go. They always have great energy on the practice field. The defense feeds off that, and it allows you to continuously have great days. When you stack those days over the course of time, you have no choice but to get pretty damn good."

As coach Mike put it, it takes both a mental and physical effort to do this thing at the highest of levels weekly, but so far the Ravens (first-stringers and reserves) have been able to put on a monster effort to lift the team to its current 2-0 record entering Week 3.

Another performance like the ones put together in the first two matchups could have the franchise thinking about a deep postseason run with days to spare in September. That's crazy, but that's what this impressive collective effort has brought to Maryland.
