The Baltimore Ravens have been cleaning up their roster as they report to training camp. With that, a few new additions have come into the mix, including Arthur Maulet. Maulet started for the Pittsburgh Steelers last season, but the team released him shortly after they drafted two cornerbacks in the 2023 NFL draft.

Baltimore Ravens sign cornerback Arthur Maulet

The Steelers were looking to get younger, but the Ravens have a need. What are they getting in Maulet? Maulet is much better against the run than he is the pass. Still, he is willing to stick his face in the fire, and he is coming off of a season where he has played 481 snaps.

He has played 1,708 snaps since 2017. Of those, he has played almost exclusively in the slot with just 114 snaps as a deep safety and 399 snaps as an outside cornerback. The rest was slot work. This is what gives him a huge heads-up on the cornerback competition.

The Baltimore Ravens needed a slot cornerback in the worst way. They currently had Pepe Williams, but he was just placed on the PUP and missed most of 2022 with injuries. He is undersized, and last year, he was a rookie, so it is hard to rely on him. Williams had just 225 snaps last year, so he probably will get off the PUP and line up after Maulet in the slot.

From there, the Ravens have Ar'Darius Washington and Kevon Seymour. Both of them were not trusted and were more reason for the team signing Maulet. So, Maulet probably waited to scope out the landscape and find one of the best jobs for him.

On the flip side, the Baltimore Ravens have to stand out as appealing because Pepe Williams was being given a job and he could not even hold on to it. The Ravens will work in some safeties to help things out in the slot, but all that means is that Maulet will not get starting work. He is going to be a part of this rotation, and he may start, forget making the roster.
