Baltimore Ravens 53-man roster projection before first preseason game
Now that the Baltimore Ravens released their first depth chart and the first preseason game is right around the corner, there is no better time than now to look at who may make the 53-man roster. Of course, things may change dramatically on Monday after we watch the team play. Still, this is a great starting point for the roster.
Quarterback (3): Lamar Jackson, Tyler Huntley, Josh Johnson
The Ravens will probably keep a third quarterback around with the new rules that they do not count against the active roster on game days.
Running back (4): Gus Edwards, JK Dobbins, Justice Hill, Patrick Ricard
Melvin Gordon and Keaton Mitchell are competing for the fourth spot behind Justice Hill, but neither is a lock, and neither makes it here. Of course, this assumes Dobbins is back and that Ricard stays at fullback.
Wide Receiver (6): Rashod Bateman, Odell Beckham, Zay Flowers, Nelson Agholor, Devin Duvernay, Laquon Treadwell
All reports are that Laquon Treadwell has been outstanding in training camp, and he has special team value. This is what pushes him over not only Tylan Wallace and James Proche but also Mitchell and Gordon.
Tight End (3): Mark Andrews, Isaiah Likely, Charlie Kolar
This seems pretty locked in, and it is hard to think of any one else making it in this group.
Offensive Line (10): Ronnie Stanley, Sala Aumavae-Laulu, Tyler Linderbaum, Kevin Zeitler, Morgan Moses, Daniel Faalele, Ben Cleveland, John Simpson, Patrick Mekari, Sam Mustipher
This may be one offensive lineman too many, but it is hard to see which of these players is the odd man out when the group is set in their two-deep.
Defensive Line (5): Justin Madubuike, Michael Pierce, Broderick Washington, Travis Jones, Brent Urban
Angelo Blackson is clearly the sixth defensive lineman, and he is one of those players who just missed the cut by one name.
Edge Rushers: (4): Odafe Oweh, David Ojabo, Tavius Robinson, Tyus Bowser
If anything, the Baltimore Ravens will add a fifth rusher in free agency. It is hard to think that Jeremiah Moon would make it.
Linebacker (5): Patrick Queen, Roquan Smith, Malik Harrison, Trenton Simpson, Del'Shawn Phillips
Del'Shawn Phillips has proven himself in training camp and has beaten out Josh Ross and Kristian Welch. For now, he gets one of the last few roster spots.
Cornerback (5): Marlon Humphrey, Rock Ya-Sin, Pepe Williams, Arthur Maulet, Jalyn Armour-Davis
Kyu Blu Kelly is the big surprising name that is missing. However, he is a fifth-round pick, and the rest of the names have roles on this roster. The Ravens may keep six cornerbacks, or try to get Kelly on the practice squad.
Safety (5): Marcus Williams, Kyle Hamilton, Geno Stone, Brandon Stephens, Daryl Worley
Daryl Worley has been playing both safety and cornerback. This is what pushes him over someone like Kelly, despite the draft pick investment in Kyu Blu Kelly.
Special Teams (3): Justin Tucker, Nick Moore, Jordan Stout
This is locked in.
