Did these 5 Baltimore Ravens lock down roster spots in the preseason finale?
3. Keaton Mitchell was rested and maybe a lock for the Baltimore Ravens roster
One notable name was missing from the Baltimore Ravens preseason finale. The thought was that UDFA Keaton Mitchell had a lot on the line when the Ravens took the field for the last preseason game. However, instead of getting a chance to prove himself and make the roster, Mitchell did not play at all.
It was curious, to say the least. On one hand, maybe they plan to cut him. They could think that if he played well, he would get claimed on waivers, so they would hide him this week. Teams will think something is up or not remember his performance after missing a week, and he can get back to the practice squad.
The more likely scenario is Mitchell making the roster and the Ravens seeing enough. The question here is how he can earn a role on game days. He is behind Justice Hill as the complementary back, and he is behind Devin Duvernay as the return man. Nonetheless, not seeing Mitchell this week has to be a good development for the chances of him being on the Ravens roster next year when both JK Dobbins and Gus Edwards will leave via free agency.
