Why Baltimore Ravens must sign Nelson Agholor in free agency

Jeffrey Becker-USA TODAY Sports

The Baltimore Ravens are going to need to find some additions to the wide receiver room. This was never a great wide receiver group, so the Ravens were always going to have to find the right fit at the right price. They are bringing in Nelson Aghlor for a visit, and they should strongly consider signing him.

The reality is that beggars cannot be choosers. If they do not pay up for Odell Beckham, who are they really going to add? With the structure of the Lamar Jackson tag, they cannot. manuever that anyways.

Agholor is known for a few big drops, but he is still a productive NFL wide receiver. He was a former first-round pick, and he still brings the speed that every team needs, which is why he continues to get work in the NFL.

Last season Agholor only had 362 yards, but that would have been third behind Devin Duvernay and Demarcus Robinson. Robinson is not on the team, and honestly, Agholor should be an upgrade. He was with Mac Jones last season, or he easily could have filled the role that Robinson played.

Swinging for slight upgrades from Demarcus Robinson is not quite the goal, but right now the only other option appears to be bringing back Robinson himself. The market has died down, and they can get Agholor for a solid price.

Beyond that, it will not limit them from drafting a wide receiver. It will just make the group look a little more professional on paper. With Rasod Bateman at the X, Devin Duvernay at the Z, and Nelson Aghlor in the slot, they at least have three capable players when healthy.

When they add someone in the draft Agholor could shift into the fourth wideout who could be a deep threat. He could also help the team flex Duvernay back to being more of a gadget-type player, and not the top receiver on the team.

Keep an eye on how this visit went. if the price is right, Nelson Agholor will be playing for the Baltimore Ravens next season.
