Baltimore Ravens 2023 roster ranking: No. 50 Angelo Blackson
The countdown until the Baltimore Ravens take the field again is on, and as we wait, we are counting down the Ravens roster to find out which players will make the biggest impact. We started with the fringe players down at 90 and worked into the top 50. Today, we start off the top 50 with Angelo Blackson, a defensive lineman.
Baltimore Ravens 2023 roster ranking: No. 50 Angelo Blackson
Angelo Blackson has been in the NFL since 2015. He is a former fourth-round pick, so that is a successful NFL career, but he does have just 42 starts in that time period. He started with the Tennessee Titans in 2015 and 2016 before catching on with the Houston Texans from 2017 through the 2019 season.
In 2020, he was with the Arizona Cardinals before spending the past two seasons with the Chicago Bears. Unfortunately for Blackson, he went from trending up every year from 2017 through 2021 to having one of his worst years in 2022.
He went from 584 snaps to 393, and worse than that, he went from 25 pressures to just five. The reality of his situation was that a coaching change was made in the middle of his contract. He was signed to play 5-technique with the Chicago Bears in 2021, and by 2022, they were essentially asking him to line up in the nose.
So, the fit made no sense, and the team phased him out before moving on. Blackson will catch on with the Baltimore Ravens, and they will play him back to his normal role on the defensive line.
This could result in his roster ranking being too low. He only has to beat out Rayshad Nichols and Trey Botts to make the roster as the sixth interior lineman. Both of these players are UDFAs from the past two seasons. If Blackson is back to his 2020 play, he could even be looked at as someone who would push Brent Urban for the fifth spot.
Since he was late to sign with anyone, and the last we saw him aas getting benched from a team with the number one pick we cannot him much higher, but he coud have a real rotational role.
