The days are going by this summer, and we are getting closer to the start of the 2023 season. As we wait, we are counting down the Baltimore Ravens roster to see which players are the best and which players have the best shot at making the team. We are moving closer to the guys inside the top 53, but right now, we are at number 59, linebacker Del'Shawn Phillips.

Baltimore Ravens 2023 roster ranking: No. 59 Del'Shawn Phillips

Del'Shawn Phillips was a UDFA who has been in the NFL since 2019, and he has stuck around in the NFL. He was a UDFA signed by the Atlanta Falcons but spent 2019 on the Buffalo Bills practice squad. He made the Bills roster as a depth option in 2020 and played 14 snaps on special teams.

In 2021, he ended up catching on with the New York Jets. Phillips played 372 snaps on special teams, and on defense, he played 161 snaps. Still, he did not catch on and ended up on the Ravens last year. Phillips only played one snap on defense, but he was a core special teams option with 258 snaps. Now, he is back trying to get on the roster.

Two things that hurt him are the additions of Trenton Simpson and Josh Ross. Ross was competing with Phillips last year but lost his job due to injury. Simpson was a third-round draft pick. He will not start, so he is role going to be locked into special teams and serving as depth. This is going to bump Del'Shawn Phillips down a peg.

When you look at the Ravens roster, Roquan Smith and Patrick Queen are the top duo, then Simpson is joined by Malik Harrison. Whoever will win the fifth linebacker spot will make the roster, and the sixth is a complete question.

Between Ross, Phillips, and Welch one linebacker, and maybe two are going to make the roster. Still, even if Phillips does have a two out of three shot to make it, that still means his best role is special teams, and he may even be inactive at times as well. That is what has him at 59, despite having a decently good shot at making the roster.
