Cocky experts go 0-14 with Week 2 predictions, eat Ravens crow
Nobody put two cents in the Baltimore Ravens chances of starting the season with an impeccable 2-0 record with victories over the rebuilding Houston Texans (0-2) and the lowly Cincinnati Bengals (0-2). Uh, oh.
Not only did the Ravens dominate the Texans in Week 1 and beat the Bengals on the road on Sunday, but according to many (all) experts out there predicting last weekend's outing they surely beat the odds.
Between pundits getting paid by NFL Network (five) and ESPN (nine), the overall feeling and consensus prediction was that the Ravens were flying to the Jungle with a very clear outcome coming their way.
They all ate crow when all was said and done. Pun intended.
All nine pundits from ESPN picked the Bengals, now 0-2 through Week 2 and facing more than long odds to make the postseason, to beat Baltimore. All whiffed.
All five pundits from NFL Network picked the Bengals, now 0-2 through Week 2 and looking more like a team destined for a great draft pick than a deep postseason run, to beat Baltimore. All whiffed.
Of course, the Ravens had themselves a day on the field and off of it too, starting with the people managing the social network accounts of the organization.
Peep the message "πππππ." If your device doesn't print emojis, then let me translate that thing: "devil face, devil face, devil face, devil face, devil face."
We all knew the Ravens were coming in hot having won their season opener. We all knew that Cincinnati was going through some struggles after paying their injured quarterback and losing their own opener. Everybody knew what was about to happen in the Jungle.
But no expert trusted the Flock for an upset.
It's Ravens (2-0) vs. Colts (1-1) next week. Anthony Richardson might not play and Jonathan Tylor is out. Will pundits, analysts, and "experts" across the globe bet against Baltimore once more? Tune in, find out!
