During the Indianapolis Colts vs. Chicago Bears game early Sunday afternoon, Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson showed signs of struggle. He was missing routine throws, holding onto the ball too long, and overall just lacked confidence.
Needless to say, after throwing his second interception of the day, Colts fans were not too pleased with Richardson's performance. Early in the second half, Richardson had a 39.3 quarterback rating on eight completions for 135 yards, no touchdowns, and two interceptions.
This came at a time when the Colts were up 7-3 but were failing to capitalize on offense and expand their lead over the Chicago Bears. The poor play from Richardson had fans calling for a familiar face to help them secure the game
Colts fans want Ravens legend Joe Flacco to enter the Chicago Bears game
Richardson's struggles in the game are further worsened when you look further into his overall performance on the season. His first two games this season have shown little to suggest he can be the Colts' franchise quarterback moving forward.
Colts fans had seen enough of Richardson through the first two games and the two-plus quarters of the Bears game and many were calling for former Baltimore Ravens quarterback legend Joe Flacco to come in relief and save the day.
The Colts signed Flacco to a one-year deal worth $4.5 million this past offseason to be a veteran backup for the second-year signal caller. Who knew that his arrival might spell doom for Richardson?
Flacco has long been revered as a winner. There is no better proof of this than when Flacco took over the starting job for the Cleveland Browns last year and led them to the playoffs. Flacco appeared in five games for the Browns, he went 4-1 in those contests and provided Cleveland with a late-season surge to get them into the playoffs.
As Anthony Richardson’s struggles continue, Colts fans are growing impatient, and their calls for Joe Flacco are only getting louder. Signed as a veteran backup to guide Richardson, Flacco now finds himself as the potential solution to the Colts’ offensive woes.
While it’s too early to completely write off Richardson, the desire for stability and proven leadership makes Flacco an enticing option for Colts fans eager to see their team turn the corner. If Richardson’s performance doesn’t improve soon, the calls for Flacco could become impossible to ignore, and Indianapolis may just find itself turning to the seasoned veteran to steady the ship.
