Detroit Lions fans are mad at a dirty play by Odell Beckham that went uncalled
There is no arguing about who was the best team on Sunday's matchup between the Baltimore Ravens and the Detroit Lions as the former went on to destroy the latter by a 38-6 final score.
A single play would have not changed that staggeringly unbalanced outcome, of course, but the final scoreline might not have been so embarrassing for a Detroit squad that had to fly back home with its tail between its legs.
In fact, one particular action by Ravens wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. drew the attention of many Detroit Lions fans because of its potential impact on the game result. Here is the play in question (h/t @JimmyLiaoMD).
The defender of the Lions is safety Kerby Joseph, who reportedly suffered a "neck strain" and potentially a concussion following the hit inflicted by OBJ in that action during the Week 7 game between the Detroit Lions and the Baltimore Ravens.
The incident happened in the third quarter when the Ravens were already in a commanding lead. In fact, Baltimore went to halftime already up 28-0 and added another touchdown in the third quarter to make it 35-0 entering the fourth, so it's not that Detroit could have done anything--Joseph injured or not.
Joseph, attempting to tackle Odell Beckham, was met with a helmet-to-helmet hit as the receiver appeared to lower his head below the limits, striking Joseph in the facemask and allegedly concussing him.
The Lions' safety was promptly taken out of the game for a concussion evaluation.
Despite the clear helmet-to-helmet hit, Beckham Jr. did not receive a flag on the play, but we'll have to wait and see if any post-game review of the action yields any financial fine to be paid by the veteran receiver.
Joseph, who was leading the Lions in tackles before the injury, also suffered the force of Ronnie Stanley earlier in the game when the offensive lineman pushed him all the way out of the field and into a cameraman while blocking for one of the Ravens' earlier touchdowns in a true show of power.
One can say that it simply wasn't Joseph's best day out there, and definitely one that we won't want to remember.
