Former Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan has the receipts to back up bold claim
By Matt Sidney
The Baltimore Ravens took care of business on Sunday Night Football when they beat the Buffalo Bills handily 35-10. The game was never close. From the very first play of the game to the final whistle, the Ravens handled their business.
Unlike the late lead collapses against the Dallas Cowboys and Las Vegas Raiders from weeks past, this Ravens team couldn't have blown a double-digit fourth-quarter lead if it tried - they were just too good all night.
Baltimore came into the game with a sense of confidence after their Week 3 win over the Cowboys. However, on the other side of the field was Bills quarterback Josh Allen, who presented all sorts of problems for opposing defenses. Buffalo was coming off its own impressive 47-10 Week 3 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Many fans thought this game would be much closer than what actually transpired. Many fans, analysts, and pundits believed the Bills were the significantly better team coming into the game. That is, all except for one outspoken media personality who used to be the Ravens defensive coordinator.
Rex Ryan says Ravens are the best team in the NFL
Well before kickoff on Sunday night, former Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan publicly stated the Ravens are the best team in the NFL. He talks about what has held this team back so far, but the talent is there for the Ravens to easily be crowned as best.
Rex Ryan knows a thing or two about the game of football, especially on the defensive side of it. His impressive knowledge and understanding that implementing new defensive schemes takes time was on full display during ESPN's Sunday Countdown segment where Ryan found himself praising his former employer.
Ryan isn't spewing nonsense here. He's being truthful and honest, and he's not providing excuses either. He accurately talks about new defensive coordinator Zach Orr needing to get his footing before the Ravens just become one of the best defenses in the NFL. It doesn't work like that. That doesn't happen overnight.
Josh Allen was limited to 180 passing yards and was under constant pressure. The Ravens’ defensive backs delivered outstanding coverage all game. Ryan mentioned this in his segment—he ain't buying the claim that the Ravens’ pass defense is the worst in the NFL. After tonight’s performance, no one else should either.
On the offensive side, Ryan dives into the star power they have with Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson and running back Derrick Henry and how talented they are.
Well, hindsight is 20/20, and Rex called himself one heck of a shot. And now he has the receipts to back it up. Well before kickoff, Ryan was alluding to the Ravens being the best team in the NFL. Come to find out they very well might be. He most certainly didn't mean to "call his shot," but Rex Ryan can't help but to be buzzing after essentially predicting he knew who the Ravens were this whole time.
The Ravens absolutely looked like the best team in football last night.
