Isaiah Likely fires stern warning shot at Chiefs after heartbreaking Ravens loss
By Matt Sidney
Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens walked out of Arrowhead Stadium with an 0-1 record and a lot of regret left on the field. The game was a back-and-forth affair with bits of drama scattered throughout.
In the closing minutes of the game, the drama really came out. The Ravens got the ball back with under two minutes left to play in the game down 27-20. Jackson led his team down the field with impressive throw after impressive throw. He looked poised and in control and it felt like he was going to drive them down the field and win the game.
Jackson found Rashod Bateman for a big gain to put them into the red zone with under 40 seconds on the clock.
From there, the Ravens ran a few plays but struggled to put the ball in the endzone. That is until Lamar danced around defenders and pass rushers to throw a strike into the back of the end zone to a covered Isaiah Likely who made an incredible catch right at the edge of the out-of-bounds line.
The catch was incredible and the Ravens were about to go for two to win the damn thing. That is until it was ruled it wasn't a catch. All that for nothing. At the end of the game, media members asked Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid their thoughts on the play and while Reid called the game of inches, Mahomes took it a bit more playful and gave Likely some unsolicited advise moving forward.
Isaiah Likely fires warning shots at Patrick Mahomes and Chiefs
The ruling on the field was that Likely was out of bounds, therefore it was not a catch, time had run out and the game was over. Likely admitted to the media he needed to get both feet in. That's not the only soundbite the breakout tight end provided.
Mahomes gave Likely advice that in order for this to not happen next time, he should wear white cleats. Easy to say jokingly for a member of the winning team. Likely didn't take too kindly to Mahomes' unsolicited advice and gave Mahomes and company a stern warning.
The Ravens played terribly all night. It was unfortunate that the game came down to one last play, but Likely understands that they weren't at their best, but once they are the Chiefs are in trouble. The response is awesome. "Stay in your lane, worry about your own stuff, and let us handle business the way we want to."
I'm loving this attitude from Likely. If this sparks a fire under the Ravens to come out with more urgency in the future then good luck to the rest of the league. Yes, the Ravens are 0-1, but it won't get any worse than tonight from Baltimore.
