Trade Number 3: The 49ers send Trey Lance and draft compensation to the Ravens in exchange for Lamar Jackson
Lastly, the Ravens could look at acquiring the former no. 3 overall pick in 2021, Trey Lance. At the moment, the 49ers aren't quite sure what Lance's future looks like. Having the likes of Purdy and Sam Darnold in the room as well doesn't bode well for Lance's future. Once a bright prospect with huge upside, Lance is now nearly entering "what-if" mode, at least from San Francisco's perspective.
Lance may have missed the boat in San Francisco, with Purdy and Darnold passing him up due to injury. Now, trading Lance could be in the 49ers' best interest. If the Ravens traded for Lance, they would likely be rolling with Tyler Huntley to start the season while Lance recovers from his torn ACL he suffered toward the beginning of last season.
If Lance pans out, this looks like a slam dunk for the Ravens. However, the draft compensation included allows some wiggle room if he doesn't. If Lance never becomes the guy some thought he would, then at least Baltimore ended up with one first rounder, along with a third, fourth and fifth-round pick.
