Nick Wright's tired ice-cold Lamar Jackson takes prove he's positively delusional
By Matt Sidney
What a game! Sunday’s clash between the Ravens and Bengals delivered drama, excitement, and a thrilling overtime finish, with Baltimore coming out on top, 41-38, thanks to a clutch game-winning field goal by Justin Tucker. The highly anticipated quarterback duel between Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow lived up to the hype, with both stars showcasing MVP-level performances.
Joe Burrow was nearly flawless, throwing for five touchdowns and 392 yards, but even that wasn't enough to stop Lamar Jackson and the Ravens. Jackson responded with 348 passing yards, four touchdowns, and one of the game’s most jaw-dropping plays - a fourth-quarter escape from pressure to find Isaiah Likely for a score. CBS commentator Kevin Harlan captured the wild moment, losing his mind as Jackson pulled off the impossible yet again.
Now sitting 5-1 in head-to-head matchups against Burrow, Jackson proved once again that he owns the Bengals. But while Burrow played lights out, Nick Wright continues to push his ice-cold take that Burrow is more consistent and trustworthy than Lamar. After this latest showdown, it’s hard to see how anyone could still believe that.
Nick Wright's Burrow is better than Jackson "analysis" is boring
Appearing on his daily television show First Things First, co-host Nick Wright spoke about how he trusts Joe Burrow more than he does Lamar Jackson. Not only does he trust Burrow more, but Jackson apparently isn't even in the conversation. It's a laughable take.
Wright states that Burrow is the better player on a game-to-game basis, and he's just more consistent than Lamar. Known as a history buff, it's funny that history would suggest Lamar is by far the more trustworthy player, especially when the two meet. Going into the game, Jackson holds a 4-1 record against Burrow - how much more consistency could you ask for?
It's unfortunate Wright refuses to hop off his ice-cold take that Jackson isn't as good a quarterback as Burrow. Argue semantics all you want, but to completely discredit Lamar's play solely because of his tired "I play the contrarian" bit is just awful analysis - if you can call it that.
The proof is in the pudding. Lamar owns the Cincinnati Bengals. After yesterday's comeback win in Cincinnati, Jackson is 9-2 all-time against the Bengals. More specifically he's now 5-1in head-to-head matchups against Joe Burrow. Interestingly enough, the great Bill Parcells once said, "You are what your record says you are." So, what is Nick Wright talking about?
While Joe Burrow did have a phenomenal game, Jackson faired pretty well himself, completing 26 passes for 348 yards and four touchdowns while adding 55 yards on the ground. Not too shabby.
Now that Jackson is 5-1 all-time against Burrow, maybe Wright will eat Crow and admit he's just flat-out wrong about his Burrow vs Jackson take. Knowing Wright, he'll weasel out of it with a few snarky remarks about the Bengals' defense holding Burrow back and whatnot, but football fans know Jackson is one of the game's best and most consistent players.
Terrible takes like this from Wright, unfortunately, feed the narrative that Lamar isn't a good quarterback. It's just not true. Lamar Jackson is elite and well on his way to his third MVP award.
