The Baltimore Ravens clinched the AFC's No. 1 seed and the right to sit during the first week of the playoffs by overpowering and giving the Miami Dolphins no option in a 56-19 victory at The Bank on Sunday part of New Year's Eve slate of early games.
This game marked the 1,084th unique scoring combination in NFL history, a feat known as Scorigami that tracks all different results to ever happen in the league since its inception. Feel free to play around with history on their website, but keep in mind that you will only find an instance of two teams scoring 56 and 19 points respectively!
After a shaky start to the game by the Ravens that saw Baltimore fall down 0-7 early with Miami scoring in its opening drive, things absolutely took a 180-degree turn in favor of the hosts.
Quarterback Lamar Jackson found Justice Hill for a 20-yard touchdown. The second TD came courtesy of a short-yardage run by (who else?) Gus Edwards.
Lamar connected for a 75-yard scoring bomb with rookie Zay Flowers later, would add another TD on a one-handed grab by Isaiah Likely, and then once more for a second score by the backup-turned-starter tight end. Jackson added a fifth touchdown pass to his Sunday's tally by connecting with (wait, who!?) fullback Patrick Ricard, who pulled another one-handed catch.
Even with the game already decided and Baltimore running Miami out of the stadium, the team was determined to inflict some pain and damage on the visiting Fins, so the offense remained relentless and led by backup QB Tyler Huntley they added two more touchdowns, one on a pass to Charlie Kolar at the end of the game and another one rushing by veteran running back Melvin Gordon.
You might have noticed I didn't mention the most important player that made this Scorigami result possible: Ravens' GOAT kicker Justin Tucker. Yes, because even though Tucker didn't have to make a single field goal (let alone attempt one), he went 8-for-8 on extra points following scoring plays and those eight bonus tokens ended up being vital for the Scorigami to happen.
Justin Tucker, take a bow!
Baltimore will wrap up its regular season with a meaningless matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers next Saturday after the NFL decided to flex the game from Sunday to one day earlier, placing it on the early slate of games set to kick off at 4:25 pm ET.
