Ravens release veteran QB Josh Johnson to make room for RB Kenyan Drake
The final two moves of the day were much more intriguing. After signing running back Kenyan Drake to the practice squad a few days ago to bolster the backfield, the Ravens didn't have any room to activate him from the PS as the NFL only allows two activations per week.
With Gordon and Moon taking those two activations, Drake was left out of the active roster for Sunday's game against the Colts... until he wasn't.
In order to create room for Drake so Baltimore can carry three running backs into Week 3, the Ravens decided to cut veteran QB Josh Johnson. In replacement of Johnson will come Tyler Huntley.
Huntley was already part of the 53-man roster although he's been out injured and only named as the QB3/bonus player in the first two games of the season. Huntley will be Lamar Jackson's backup on Sunday without a third quarterback available now that Johnson is effectively a free agent.
