The Baltimore Ravens kicked off their training camp practices on Wednesday, July 26, and they did so by completing a couple of roster moves on the boundaries of the 53-man roster.

The franchise announced yesterday the official release of offensive tackle Brandon Kipper and the placing of defensive back Trayvon Mullen on the active/non-football injury list.

Kipper's departure comes as the Ravens assess their roster ahead of the upcoming season, and it is related to the addition of former Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Arthur Maulet, who the Ravens signed before making this move.

The Ravens needed to make room for Maulet, and the 25-year-old OT was the ultimate casualty of such an addition. Kipper, an undrafted free agent, can now be claimed off waivers by any other NFL franchise that wants a warm body present at their own training camp.

On the other hand, Trayvon Mullen, a former second-round pick by the Oakland Raiders in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Clemson, was sent to the active/non-football injury list.

Mullen has been part of multiple organizations through the last few years without ever putting on a show, and he's now in the final year of his four-year rookie contract. Mullen was traded to the Cardinals at the beginning of last season after spending two first reasonably "good" years in Oakland/Las Vegas but falling out of favor in 2021 mostly because of an injury-filled campaign.

The Cardinals released Mullen last December, just three months and a half after trading for him. The Dallas Cowboys pounced and added him to their roster one day later only to release him last January, barely a month into his tenure in the Lone Star State.

The Ravens' decision to place Mullen on the active/non-football injury list raises questions about the nature of the injury and its implications for his availability in the upcoming season.

Mullen is far from a lock to make the 53-man roster with Baltimore boasting a loaded CB room ahead of next season including the likes of Marlon Humphrey, Rock Ya-Sin, Arthur Maulet, Kyu Blu Kelly, and Daryl Worley. However, he should at least be one of the most viable candidates to fill a reserve spot ahead of 2023 in case any of the starters get injured throughout the season.
