Ravens WR Rashod Bateman is already "running on the sideline"
Although the Ravens offense saw many new faces arrive in Baltimore through the early part of the offseason, one of the best playmakers in the unit was already part of the team last year: wide receiver Rashod Bateman.
Bateman has missed all training camp through Monday sitting on the PUP list entering the pre-season practicing period a few weeks ago at the end of July and has been rehabbing for the most part of the summer after undergoing season-ending surgery on his foot last November.
Well, good news came out of Owings Mills on Monday when Jonas Shaffer of The Baltimore Banner reported that Bateman "ran on an adjacent field and appeared to be moving well."
The report, published after the Ravens completed their 11th day of training camp, reported on Bateman's getting closer than ever to practice with the rest of his teammates and was echoed by many other beat reporters writing and tweeting from the Under Armour Performance Center in Owings Mills.
As pointed out by Jamison Hensley of ESPN, coach John Harbough said on Friday that Bateman was "doing a really great job" and that "there is a chance he will be out there pretty soon." However, he avoided getting into any type of controversy by not committing to a date for his return.
"I don't want to say for sure because that just gets me in trouble. Then you're going to say, 'Well, you said he's going to be back by a certain time.'," Harbaugh stated.
In other injury-related news, Shaffer touched on multiple players on the positive and negative side of the IR on Monday, including the following names and respective notes (you can read everything in detail at TBB):
- On FB Patrick Ricard: "Returned to practice after passing his physical... His workload was limited... He mostly spectated as he worked with the offensive line."
- On WR Odell Beckham Jr.: "Left practice about an hour early... Harbaugh said he’s not injured..."
- On TE Mark Andrews: "Sat out the final 50 minutes or so... Harbaugh said it was precautionary given the weather conditions."
- On RB Melvin Gordon: "Got stretched out on the field with an athletic trainer midway through practice... Eventually returned and rejoined team drills."
- On WR Zay Flowers and TE Isaiah Likely: "Left team drills briefly dealing with apparent minor foot injuries... Both returned to the field."
- On EDGE David Ojabo: "Returned to practice after missing the past few days."
- On S Geno Stone: "Was on the defensive sideline with his left ankle taped."
