Updated Ravens injury report is nightmare scenario for uninspiring Raiders team
By Matt Sidney
Week 2 is rolling in hot as the Baltimore Ravens gear up for an early afternoon showdown with the Las Vegas Raiders. Fresh off a tight 27-20 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs last week, the Ravens are pumped to be back and showing off for the NFL’s greatest fans right here at home.
The vibe at the stadium is gonna be off the charts. We’ve got the 0-1 Raiders in town, scratching for their first win just like us. They just got roughed up 22-10 by the Los Angeles Chargers, so if the Ravens stick to what they do best, we should be seeing a solid win today.
But hey, let’s not get too comfy. The Raiders aren’t exactly pushovers, and nobody wants to see the Ravens start the season at 0-2. So grab your snacks, find your spot on the couch, and get ready for some killer football. Here’s all the info you need to catch every play of your favorite team this afternoon.
Initially, it looked like the Ravens could be without superstar linebacker Roquan Smith. However, he came back today and fully participated in practice. That should be nightmare scenario for the Raiders who could use any break they could get their hands on.
Updated Ravens injury report is best-case scenario
Repeat after me, "Roquan Smith is healthy." That statement alone must strike fear and uneasiness into the Raiders fanbase and locker room. Dealing with a shoulder injury is never easy, especially when you need it to tackle opposing offensive players. However, he obviously feels good enough to give it a go on Sunday, which is a huge win for the Ravens.
Confetti and cake for the news! Keep in mind that this doesn't guarantee the Ravens a win. What it does do is ensure the Ravens have an All-Pro manning the middle of the defense against a stagnant and stale offense. Essentially, his being back makes it a lot easier on the defense.
However, it's not all rainbows and sunshine for everyone. Rookie cornerback Nate Wiggins is now on the report with a neck injury that should be monitored. He's expected to play a decent-sized role on the defense this season, so let's hope there's nothing too much going on here. Additionally, Kyle Van Noy is still out with an eye injury. Other than that, no significant changes have been made, including linebacker Adisa Isaac being limited.
Expect the defense to show up in ways they didn't last week against the Chiefs. On numerous occasions, the Ravens were unprepared and unsettled in their defensive formations. Chalk that up to early season lack of mojo all you want, but the Ravens' defense needs time to establish itself as a dominant unit and they won't do that with key players missing time.
