The Baltimore Ravens have a heap of decisions to make this offseason with a roster that will face plenty of turnover. One player that will be a free agent is quarterback Tyler Huntley. Will the Ravens let him walk this year?
Should the Baltimore Ravens let Tyler Huntley walk in free agency
Last year around this time, there was a question about what the Ravens would do with Huntley. They decided to tender him, essentially locking him into a one-year deal. This year, he will be a free agent again, but the Ravens may let him walk.
First, the cap situation is different. They have more impending free agents coming, and Lamar Jackson is going to see his salary start to hit the cap differently. The Ravens have to start saving every penny on the cap. That means letting someone like Huntley go.
The Ravens may have prepared for this when they brought in Malik Cunningham from the New England Patriots. Cunningham was a duel threat who played receiver and quarterback for the Patriots, but the Ravens have been adamant they view him as a quarterback. One reason may be because he has a similar skill set to Huntley, but at his status in the league, he will be on the roster with a cheaper price tag and the chance to keep him on the roster longer.
Huntley has proven to be fine as a backup, but the Ravens are 3-6 in games that he starts. He was sacked four times ina loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers in week 18 this year. It is clear that his presence helps, but if Lamar Jackson gets injured, he cannot keep them from fading out of the mix.
It does not sound like he is worth the rising price tag, and the Baltimore Ravens should let him walk in free agency.
