It'd be a weird sight to see Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews in a different uniform but after the team's 1-5 start, the chances of the team trading him definitely increased. Not only is the team sitting in that aforementioned 1-5 hole, but Andrews is in the final year of his contract and the Ravens have Isaiah Likely as the likely (no pun intended) successor.
Andrews appeared on ESPN's list of trade candidates for those exact reasons. Jeremy Fowler touched on how Odafe Oweh was already traded and how Andrews is in the final year of his deal as reasons why the long-time Ravens tight end could be shipped off ahead of the deadline.
"The three-time Pro Bowler is a tried-and-true Raven, and Baltimore is still holding out faith that it can make a playoff run despite the 1-5 start. But shipping pass rusher Odafe Oweh to the Chargers surprised many around the league, and the franchise seems open to at least evaluating the future of key veterans. Andrews is making $11 million in the final year of his deal, and tight end Isaiah Likely is also set to hit free agency, probably forcing the Ravens to make some sort of action at the position eventually."
The good news here is that while Andrews made an appearance on the list, Fowler listed the odds of the Oklahoma product being traded at a mere 20%.
Mark Andrews trade buzz takes a positive turn for Ravens fans
Some might argue that Baltimore should be looking to send Andrews on his way so that the team can get draft picks and improve the roster so this same thing doesn't happen next year. At the same time though, it'd be painful to see Andrews play elsewhere. He's been a huge part of this offense since the Ravens spent a third-round pick on him in 2018 and fans obviously want him to be a Raven for his entire career.
As Fowler mentioned too, the Ravens are still hoping they can turn things around and make a run at the playoffs. It might seem bleak but trading Andrews would make that feat an even more difficult thing to accomplish. He's been one of Lamar Jackson's favorite targets and the offense would definitely take a hit without Andrews.
There's still a little under two weeks to go before the trade deadline so we'll have to see if Andrews is still a Raven when the buzzer sounds.
