Russell Wilson joined the AFC North in 2024 after agreeing to a contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He ended up playing against the Baltimore Ravens three times, losing two of those games with the dagger coming in the wild card round of the playoffs.
Now, another team in the division might fall into the Russell Wilson trap, as Wilson is reportedly set to meet with the Cleveland Browns this week, according to Tom Pelissero. Wilson, of course, could still end up going back to Pittsburgh for another season of mediocrity with the Steelers but it feels as though Pittsburgh is putting its eggs in the Aaron Rodgers basket for now and using Wilson as a back-up plan.
While Ravens fans get to kick back and relax knowing they have Lamar Jackson as their starting quarterback for the foreseeable future, it's fun watching other teams, especially the ones in the AFC North, not get to experience that same level of comfort.
Russell Wilson could remain in AFC North in 2025, per reports
Wilson isn't the same quarterback he once was during his prime with the Seahawks and the past few years have been solid evidence of that. Wilson was declining before he was traded from Seattle to Denver, then had an abysmal year with the Broncos. While he had a bounce back year in 2023, it wasn't enough for the Broncos to want to stick with him and that's how he ended up in Pittsburgh in 2024.
While the Steelers did beat the Ravens once during the 2024 season, it wasn't a game that Wilson won for his team. He didn't throw a touchdown in the win and was sacked four times.
The Browns have so much drama surrounding the quarterback situation and it all stems from that atrocious contract they gave to Deshaun Watson three years ago. The Browns have always struggled to find a long-term starting quarterback and bringing Wilson in would lead to him being another name on the infamously long jersey with all of the Browns quarterbacks since 1999.
Ravens fans are certainly enjoying the drama, that's for sure.
