Ravens follow Trey Hendrickson bombshell with Jaylinn Hawkins signing

The Ravens secondary looks a lot stronger.

The Baltimore Ravens are dominating the NFL news cycle currently after they rescinded their trade offer for Las Vegas Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby. Not to mention that the team did lose out on a variety of top players to free agency, such as center Tyler Linderbaum and tight end Isaiah Likely. Yet, they did make a huge splash in bringing in former Cincinnati Bengals pass rusher Trey Hendrickson on a four-year, $112 million contract on Wednesday.

The Ravens were far from done to agreeing to terms with free agents on Wednesday.

According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Ravens agreed to terms with New England Patriots safety Jaylinn Hawkins on a two-year contract. Schefter's colleague, Jeremy Fowler, reports that the contract is worth $10 million in total.

The Ravens already have a stacked secondary, especially at safety with Kyle Hamilton ad Malaki Starks. But, as ESPN's Jeremy Fowler points out, new Ravens head coach Jesse Minter wants to use three safeties on the field this upcoming season. So that opens the door for the team to sign Hawkins, who was one of the better defensive backs available in free agency.

Originally a 2020 fourth-round pick of the Atlanta Falcons, Hawkins signed with the Patriots in 2024. Despite the change at head coach from Jerod Mayo to Mike Vrabel, Hawkins remained with the team. And this past season, he thrived.

Through 19 games, including in the playoffs and Super Bowl 60, Hawkins recorded 56 tackles, 11 pressures, and two sacks. In coverage, Hawkins allowed 22 receptions for 254 yards and three touchdowns on 32 targets, while posting four interceptions and two pass breakups, per Pro Football Focus.

Bringing in one of the standouts on a team that just made the Super Bowl is going to be viewed as a win. Sure, the Ravens don't exactly have much to be happy about, considering the Crosby trade falling through and the amount of top players leaving in free agency.
